The ISO 45001 revision
ISO 45001 is the international standard specifying requirements for occupational health and safety management systems. It is being revised in ISO/TC 283, Working Group 6 (WG 6).

What ISO 45001 specifies
ISO 45001 sets requirements for an OHS management system: context, leadership, risk-based planning, support, operation, evaluation and improvement. Organisations in every sector can be certified to it.
In Norway it is commonly applied alongside the Working Environment Act and the Internal Control Regulations on systematic OHS work.
The revision work in WG 6
The revision follows the ordinary ISO process, with drafts and national consultations through the member bodies. ISO/TC 283 decides the final content and the publication date.

Relationship to ISO 45010:2026
ISO 45010:2026, published on 7 September 2026, gives guidance on menstrual and menopausal health within an OHS management system. It is written for use alongside ISO 45001.
Limits
Taking part in WG 6 gives no advantage in certification to ISO 45001.

- Do certified organisations need to act now?
- Existing certificates to ISO 45001:2018 remain valid. When a new edition is published, IAF and the certifying bodies set the transition arrangements.
